TSMC just delivered another record quarter. The margin story is more nuanced.
TSMC reported Q3 revenue of NT$1.494T, up 50.9% YoY, and net profit of NT$763.06B, up 68.7%. Net profit set a quarterly record and beat the NT$746.34B LSEG SmartEstimate cited by CNBC.
The technology mix shows where demand is moving:
· 2nm reached 8% of wafer revenue, up from 3% in Q2
· 3nm contributed 33%, followed by 5nm at 28% and 7nm at 10%
· Advanced nodes, defined as 7nm and below, made up 79% of wafer revenue
These are revenue shares, not shipment or capacity shares.
High-performance computing accounted for 68% of total revenue, up from 66% in Q2. HPC includes more than AI, so this is not an AI-only revenue figure. Still, it shows how much of TSMC’s growth is tied to advanced compute demand.
Profitability needs context too:
· Gross margin was 66.4%, within guidance of 65% to 67%
· Operating margin reached 58.7%, above the top end of the 58% guidance range
· Both margins declined from Q2, when they stood at 67.7% and 60.3%
· Revenue grew 17.6% QoQ, while net profit increased 8.0%
Record profit can coexist with lower sequential margins. That is not necessarily a warning, but it shows why absolute earnings and operating leverage should be watched separately.
The next test is whether demand, production and cash generation keep moving together. Can advanced-node growth support margins as capacity expands? Do customer spending plans become sustained orders and deliveries? And does earnings growth create enough cash to fund the next wave of fabs and equipment?
For crypto markets, TSMC is useful context, not a standalone BTC or ETH signal. Strong foundry results can support the broader AI investment narrative, but building chips and operating downstream AI services are different economic tests. What investors have already priced in matters too.
What will you watch next: demand, margins, or cash generation?

US inflation puts the next Fed decision in focus.
September CPI, released on Oct 14, showed renewed price pressure:
• Headline inflation: 3.7% YoY, up from 3.4% in August
• Monthly CPI: 0.6%, up from 0.4%
• Core inflation: 2.6% YoY and 0.3% MoM
Core monthly inflation was unchanged from August, but exceeded the 0.2% forecast. Annual core inflation also topped the 2.5% estimate. Headline monthly CPI matched expectations, so not every reading was a surprise.
The details were mixed:
• Gasoline prices rose 9.1%, accounting for more than half of the monthly headline increase
• Shelter rose 0.4%
• Food prices were flat
Energy drove much of the headline increase, but core inflation shows why the discussion cannot stop at gasoline. Equally, an above-forecast reading is not the same as a month-on-month acceleration.
The next scheduled Fed meeting is Oct 27-28. The Fed’s 2% longer-run inflation goal is measured using PCE, not CPI. This report informs the outlook, but employment, spending and subsequent inflation data also belong in the policy discussion.
Our watchlist:
• Persistence: do underlying price pressures remain elevated in subsequent reports?
• Policy: how do inflation and jobs data reshape the expected rate path?
• Markets: how do Treasury yields and the dollar respond as investors reassess expectations?
• Crypto: how do ETF flows, funding and liquidations evolve alongside macro repricing?
Our takeaway: separate the data, market pricing and actual policy decisions. Futures-implied probabilities are changing estimates, not commitments from the Fed.
For BTC and the wider crypto market, we would assess any reaction alongside liquidity, leverage, positioning and crypto-specific catalysts, rather than treating CPI as a standalone directional signal.
Which signal matters most to you next: core inflation, Fed guidance, or crypto-specific flows?
#USCPI3.7%CoreBeat
Official U.S. data shows that the September CPI rose 3.7% year-over-year, higher than the expected 3.6% and up from the previous 3.4%. Core CPI rose to 2.6% year-over-year, also above the expected 2.5% and the previous 2.4%. Both indicators exceeded expectations and increased from prior values, with overall inflation rising for three consecutive months, moving away from the previous low of 3.4%. Reviewing the historical sequence, the CPI year-over-year dropped from 4.2% in May to 3.5% in June, then held steady at 3.4% for July and August, before rising again to 3.7% in September, breaking the previous downward trend. The renewed acceleration in core inflation is particularly noteworthy; price pressures excluding food and energy show that underlying inflation momentum has not faded with the overall decline but has instead re-accumulated over the past two months. The simultaneous above-expectation rise in both overall and core indicators suggests that the previous cooling of inflation relied more on volatile components like energy rather than a fundamental easing on the demand side, adding complexity to the judgment of future policy paths. #九月CPI今晚公布,美联储加息分歧待解

Korea’s chip rebound still needs proof.
KOSPI jumped more than 2% shortly after the open on Oct 14, then faded to a 0.47% gain by around 10:20 am KST. Foreign investors were still net sellers, so this was an intraday bounce, not a confirmed recovery.
The context matters.
· KOSPI closed down 5.46% at 6,035.35 on Oct 13, its sharpest drop in nearly two months
· Samsung Electronics fell 7.39%, while SK hynix dropped 10.09%
· Foreign investors sold more than KRW4.5T of KOSPI shares, with selling concentrated in the two chip giants
· Institutions and retail investors were net buyers, but that did not stop the index from sliding
· The Korea Exchange triggered a sell-side sidecar, pausing affected program sell orders for five minutes after a sharp move in KOSPI 200 futures
A sidecar slows a category of automated orders. It does not fix the forces behind the selling.
The Oct 14 rebound was uneven. Samsung and SK hynix were up 1.08% and 0.69% around 10:20 am, but both had given back stronger opening gains. KOSDAQ was down 1.26%, showing that buying had not spread.
That is the key point: AI demand, chip-stock leadership and a durable recovery are not the same signal.
For confidence to rebuild, the market needs more than bargain hunting. Watch whether foreign selling eases, whether memory pricing and margins support earnings, whether roadmaps turn into shipments, and whether buying expands beyond the largest semiconductor names.
For crypto markets, this is worth monitoring, not overreading. Korean chip weakness can feed into global risk appetite, especially when AI stocks drive so much positioning. But it does not prove that BTC or ETH must follow KOSPI lower. Crypto still has its own flows, leverage and catalysts.
The cleaner question is whether this is a short reset in the AI trade, or the start of a broader confidence test.
What would make you trust the rebound first: foreign flows, chip earnings, or broader participation?
