Bitcoin retreated from $84,254, dropping 2.2%.
At the same time, BOME fell 30%, BLUR dropped 29%, STRK declined 28%, and CKB fell 22%.
BTC just sneezed, while altcoins went straight to the ICU.
Bitcoin surged to $84,254 on Monday before pulling back to around $82,000, a drop of only 2.2%. Sounds okay, right? A normal correction.
But look at the altcoins: BOME down 30.04% in 24 hours, BLUR down 29.48%, STRK down 28.35%, CKB down 22.50%, ENA down 15.55%, NEAR down 13.44%.
This is not a correction; this is a one-sided massacre.
Why this divergence?
Three reasons, explained one by one.
First, money is flowing to safer places. Brent crude oil surged to $107.25/barrel, WTI broke through $94. The market is waiting for CPI and PPI data releases. When oil prices rise, inflation expectations increase, and rate hike concerns return. At times like this, capital instinctively shrinks into the most certain asset—Bitcoin. Altcoins? Those are for the highest risk-takers and get dumped first.
Second, liquidity stratification. Bitcoin dominance has reached 59%-60%. What does this mean? The entire crypto market’s money is increasingly concentrated in Bitcoin alone. Altcoins already lack funds, and Bitcoin’s further absorption drains them dry. CryptoQuant data shows many altcoins’ trading prices are approaching historical lows, and market breadth continues to deteriorate.
Third, leverage liquidation. Altcoins surged aggressively in September, with many people leveraged long. Glassnode warns that leverage levels on major altcoins have reached the highest since the crash in October 2025. When Bitcoin dips slightly, these high-leverage positions trigger liquidations, which crash prices further, triggering more liquidations—a chain reaction.
Two lessons for everyone.
First, during peak macro uncertainty, don’t heavily hold altcoins.
Oil prices are rising, CPI is yet to be released, and rate hike expectations hang in the air. The market is in “risk-off” mode, and altcoins’ beta will amplify your losses tenfold. You can handle a 2% drop in BTC, but can you handle a 30% drop in altcoins?
Second, watch BTC dominance.
If dominance continues above 60%, it means funds are still concentrating in Bitcoin; the altcoin season hasn’t arrived. Don’t rush to bottom-fish or “bottom-fish altcoins for a rebound.” Altcoins’ spring requires the macro fog to clear.
BTC dropping 2% is a correction; altcoins dropping 30% is a massacre.
In these days waiting for CPI, protecting principal is ten thousand times more important than chasing rebounds.
You can earn less in a bull market, but you can’t shoot all your bullets in a choppy market.
Survive, and you’ll have the right to wait for the next round.
