ZEC at $1225, are you ready to bottom-fish?
Grayscale ETF shifted from net inflow to a net outflow of $93 million, price dropped from 1700 to 1112, but the privacy pool ratio quietly hit a new high—just now, ZEC rebounded to 1225, bulls and bears are both betting on the direction. Is this wave a "shakeout and accumulation," or a "dead cat bounce" after ETF funds retreat?
First, the surface: dropped 34% from 1700 to 1112.
At the end of September, it was still 1697; on October 8th, it hit a low of 1112; in the past two days, it rebounded to 1220-1230, basically sideways today, 24-hour range 1196-1245. Market cap 20.8 billion, ranked 10th, with nearly 4x growth over the year. The candlestick tells you: daily RSI 45 neutral, the sharp drop is a normal retracement, but volume on down days is high, volume on rebound days is low—the sellers haven't fully exited, don't rush to call a reversal.
First thing: ETF money is starting to run back.
On August 25th, Grayscale's ZCSH was listed on NYSE Arca, the first US spot ZEC ETF, with AUM surpassing $500 million in two weeks. Sounds impressive, right?
But in early October, it saw its first weekly net outflow since listing, about $93 million. After September 22nd, there was almost no daily net inflow.
What does this mean? ETF money is not "locked-in faith," it's hot money that can flow in and out. It pushed the price from 1100 to 1700 when flowing in, and smashed it back from 1700 to 1100 when flowing out. It pumped the price up and also dumped it down.
Retail investors thought ETF meant "institutions are bullish long-term," but found institutions ran faster than anyone.
ETF is not your ally; it is your opponent. When it buys, you chase; when it sells, you hold the bag.
Second thing: The privacy narrative is real, but "real" doesn't mean immediate price rise.
ZEC's core is optional privacy: shielded pools hide sender, receiver, and amount while remaining verifiable. Currently about 29% of supply is in shielded pools, up from 23% a year ago, and only 7-8% five years ago. Long-term usage is slowly rising, that's a fact.
In the AI era, identity correlation risks increase, some see ZEC's shielded transactions as a solution. The SEC ended its investigation with no enforcement. Quantum security upgrade planned through 2027.
But the problem is—70% of supply is still in transparent addresses; users who treat privacy as a must-have are still a minority.
Privacy is "right in the long term," but what is the short-term catalyst? No major mainnet events this week; price can only follow ETF flows and the broader market. No matter how good the narrative, funds have to come back first.
Third thing: Technically stuck in the "middle position," bulls and bears have no clear direction.
1225 is exactly between this round's low of 1112 and previous high of 1697.
There is room both up and down; no winner yet.
Strong support: 1110-1120 (October 8 low). If daily closes below, look to 1050-1080.
Near-term support: 1170-1185 (yesterday's low).
Near-term resistance: 1245-1285. If it can't reclaim this, the rebound is just a correction.
Strong resistance: 1340-1380, then 1500-1520, and previous high 1697.
Without volume to reclaim 1350, it's hard to retest previous highs.
Volume on down days is high, volume on rebound days is low—this detail tells you sellers haven't fully exited; the current rebound is just "catching breath after a big drop."
Bulls vs bears, you decide:
On one side:
Privacy pool ratio hits a new high at 29%, long-term holders haven't fled
Winklevoss filed for a second ETF (WINK), 0.25% fee, intends to subscribe $100 million
SEC investigation ended, regulatory pressure less than 2023-2025
Nearly 4x growth in a year, big trend intact
On the other side:
ZCSH's first weekly net outflow of $93 million, funds cooling off
70% of supply still in transparent addresses, limited privacy-mandatory users
BTC dropped from 87000 to 82600, Fed hawkish, risk appetite insufficient
Technically stuck in the middle, rebound volume low, sellers not gone
Key level 1225 is now the bulls-bears watershed.
Resistance above: 1245-1285 → 1340-1380 → 1500-1520 → 1697
Support below: 1170-1185 → 1110-1120 (iron bottom) → 1050-1080
Trading strategy
Short-term players:
Don't enter directly at 1225; resistance is just above, risk-reward not favorable. Wait for a pullback to 1170-1190 without breaking, and a 1-hour reclaim above 1210 before going long. Stop loss below 1145. First target 1280, second target 1350.
Breakout players:
4-hour volume close above 1260, then target 1340-1380. Stop loss below 1210. Ignore fake breakouts without volume.
Short-term shorts:
Light short positions on resistance at 1245-1280 if volume is insufficient, stop loss above 1300, targets 1180/1120. 1225 is already away from today's low, not suitable for chasing shorts.
Swing traders:
Mid-term logic is ETF + privacy narrative, but fund flow has cooled. More comfortable positions are volume-contracted stabilization at 1120 or daily close above 1350. If daily closes below 1110, mid-term bulls pause, reassess at 1050.
Risk control core:
Single coin risk not exceeding 5% of risk capital
Leverage capped at 2-3x
Focus on ZCSH daily net flow + second ETF approval progress
ZEC now is like the privacy version of ETH in 2021—
Everyone knows privacy is a must-have, but no one wants to catch the falling knife when funds flow out. When ETF net inflow resumes and price stabilizes above 1300, you'll say again, "I should have bought at 1200."
It's not that ZEC is bad; you just trust it when funds flow in and doubt it when funds flow out. The real opportunity often comes the moment ETF stops outflowing.
