Lumentum’s latest results add an earnings perspective to its proposed combination with Marvell.
Released Nov 2, Q1 FY2027 results for the quarter ended Sep 26 included:
• Revenue: $1.263B, up 136.5% YoY and 25.5% QoQ
• GAAP net income: $360.3M
• GAAP diluted EPS: $3.54
• Non-GAAP diluted EPS: $4.57
Profitability strengthened too. GAAP gross margin reached 51.0%, versus 34.0% a year earlier. GAAP operating margin was 28.5%, while the non-GAAP measure was 42.3%.
Management cited pump lasers and optical circuit switches as leading growth contributors. It also secured a second major near-packaged/co-packaged optics win, backed by purchase commitments exceeding $5B. These commitments provide demand visibility, not revenue already recognized.
For Q2, Lumentum forecasts:
• Revenue: $1.575B-$1.625B
• Non-GAAP operating margin: 45%-46%
• Non-GAAP diluted EPS: $5.90-$6.20
The outlook points to further growth, but remains management guidance.
The deal adds a longer timeline. Marvell would exchange 4.5 shares for each Lumentum share, with an implied enterprise value of about $115B at announcement. The fixed exchange ratio means the value of the stock consideration moves with Marvell’s share price.
Closing is expected in H1 2028, subject to both companies’ shareholder approvals, regulatory approvals and other customary conditions.
The companies see rising bandwidth needs and the physical limits of copper links driving closer integration of electrical and optical technologies. Combining networking silicon with lasers and optical switching is intended to address that demand.
They project more than $1B in annual cost synergies and non-GAAP EPS accretion for Marvell in the first year after closing. These are expected benefits, not results already achieved.
The focus spans two timelines: near-term revenue and margins, and the execution needed to deliver the merger’s longer-term benefits.

Palantir nearly doubled Q3 revenue, with US commercial sales overtaking government revenue and profitability adding another dimension to the growth story.
For the quarter ended Sep 30, 2026:
• Revenue: $2.313B, up 96% YoY and 20% QoQ
• US commercial revenue: $984M, up 148% YoY
• US government revenue: $953M, up 96% YoY
• GAAP operating income: $1.085B, with a 47% margin
US commercial revenue surpassed US government revenue for the first time. Both grew strongly, making this a shift in the business mix rather than evidence of shrinking government demand.
Results also beat expectations. Adjusted EPS was $0.44 versus the $0.41 LSEG estimate, while revenue exceeded the $2.18B forecast. Net income reached about $1.13B, compared with $476M a year earlier.
Contract activity presents a more measured picture:
• Total contract value closed: $2.918B, up 6% YoY
• US commercial TCV: $1.463B, up 11% YoY
• US commercial remaining deal value: $6.517B, up 79% YoY and 4% QoQ
Revenue and TCV measure different activity: revenue recognized during the quarter versus the potential lifetime value of contracts closed. The growth gap is worth monitoring, but does not by itself establish a slowdown. Remaining deal value is also not revenue already earned.
Management raised its outlook again, projecting about $2.65B in Q4 revenue and $8.53B for full-year 2026. US commercial revenue is expected to exceed $3.56B for the year.
Shares nevertheless dipped about 3% in extended trading after the release. The reaction highlights the distinction between delivering strong results and meeting the expectations embedded in a stock's valuation.
The next test is sustaining commercial expansion while replenishing the contract pipeline. Revenue growth, operating margins and deal activity together offer a fuller view of whether AI demand is translating into durable business performance.

Apple delivered a record September quarter. The holiday outlook now puts the balance between sales growth and rising costs in focus.
For Q4 FY2026, ended Sep 26, Apple reported:
• Revenue: $114.5B, up 12% YoY
• Diluted EPS: $2.10, up 14%
• Gross margin: 47.9%
• iPhone revenue: $57.58B
• Services revenue: a record $31.57B
Revenue and EPS beat analyst expectations. iPhone sales set a September-quarter record, while Services reached an all-time high, broadening the growth story beyond hardware alone.
The margin comparison needs context. Tariff refunds added about $0.05 to EPS and one percentage point to gross margin. Subtracting that margin benefit gives an approximate 46.9% reference point, not a company-reported adjusted margin.
That distinction matters when comparing Q4 with the December-quarter outlook. It avoids attributing the entire change from 47.9% to future guidance to higher ongoing costs.
For the December quarter, Apple expects:
• Revenue growth: 7%-10% YoY
• Gross margin: 45%-46%
Management expects another revenue record, but higher memory costs put profitability under pressure. The sales outlook and margin outlook therefore tell different stories: more revenue does not necessarily mean a higher profit margin.
Services adds another dimension to that assessment. Its record revenue highlights the role of the installed base and recurring customer activity, while hardware demand and component costs remain important to the overall earnings picture.
Apple generated $28B in operating cash flow and returned $28B to shareholders during Q4. Its active installed base also reached a new high across major product categories and regions.
The next quarter will test whether sales momentum and the business mix can offset rising costs. Revenue growth, underlying margins and cash generation together offer a fuller view than the headline earnings beat.
Can Apple sustain its sales momentum while keeping margin pressure in check?
